The career criminal on the lam after he was spotted carting around his dead wife on a dolly on Staten Island was arrested Saturday, officials said.
Anthony Lopez was on the run since Friday morning, when he was seen wheeling the body of Obiamaka Aduba, 26, along Post Ln. near Richmond Terr. in Mariners Harbor, police said.
Lopez (photo), 31, shaved his head and tried to disguise himself after police distributed a photo of him Friday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said. He scowled and shook his head silently as police lead him from the 121st Precinct stationhouse.
A tip led police to East Harlem, where cops nabbed him at First Ave. and 113th St. Lopez sought shelter at his aunt’s place, but they wouldn’t let him stay with them, sources said. He was caught after a brief chase.
Lopez and the victim had a tumultuous relationship, and sources said he beat her badly enough in the past to break bones and had her work as a prostitute. Her mom tried to stay in touch, but “Every time her mother would buy her a new phone, he would take it and sell it,” one police source said.
Aduba’s body was wrapped in a sheet, with strangulation marks around her neck and bruises on her body, Boyce said.
The city medical examiner has yet to determine how Aduba died.
