Queen’s College: PTA searches for victim, mother

The Queen’s College Parent/Teacher Association says a visitation panel set up by the Federal Ministry of Education to investigate the molestation claim by a parent will be in the school on Wednesday, March 30. Chairperson of the association, Mrs. Beatrice Akhetuame, stated this at a news conference on Monday in Lagos.
The panel was set up by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, last week to probe alleged case of molestation by a teacher in the institution. Members of the panel were given two weeks to submit a report to the government.
Akhetuame said the panel had invited all concerned stakeholders on the matter to appear before it on the set dates. She said, “The PTA has received an invitation letter and so have all other concerned persons.“What we are now appealing for is for the woman who gave her daughter’s name as Chinenye Okoye to come forward and collect her own letter of invitation.
“The letter was left in my office. It was forwarded to us because the panel believes that the complainant is a member of the PTA.” Akhetuame stated that the presence of the supposed victim would ensure speedy investigations on the issue.
She said, “I am the representative of parents of the college and therefore, I have the responsibility of defending the interest of parents, while the welfare of the pupils also falls on me. “I am a mother of five girls; two of them are in this college. It will not be possible for me cover such incident up or do anything funny about it.
“I know what it means to train the girl-child and I dare say at all times, my attention is always focused on their activities or issues that concern them. “We are happy that the panel is visiting and I pray that the truth behind the entire saga would be unravelled.”
A parent of a JSS-2 girl had claimed that one of the male teachers in the school had allegedly molested her daughter on a few occasions.
