JUSTICE FOR AKINNIFESI OLUMIDE OLUBUNMI

Jungle justice can be defined as the capital punishment meted out by individuals without any legal authority on a suspected individual. Akinnifesi Olumide Olubunmi, was allegedly mobbed by irate youths in the southwest Nigerian state of Ondo on 17th January 2016, and later died of internal bleeding on the 18th of February 2016. His properties and that of the alleged lover were also burnt. We can't keep talking about jungle justice and doing nothing about it, he was killed based on suspicion, even if he was found to be gay, he doesn't deserve to be killed. If he broke the law let the law deal with him. We keep forgetting that there is a reason we have the Nigerian police and their duty is to arrest any culprit and brought to law. Let the due law of the process take effect.

People keep shouting being gay is not part of our culture, is killing people for no reason part of our culture? traditionally, did't our forefathers go to the palace for the King and his advisers to decide the fate of a culprit? Same thing goes for our Christian faith, is one of our commandment "Thou shall not kill"? "Thou shall not bear false witness"? ( He was killed based of suspicion), the same bible also said " He who without sin cast the first stone John 8:7"? Show me where in the bible that we were commanded to kill homosexuals. You say homosexuals are sinners, what's the difference between their sins and that of cheat, rapist, thief? No sin is more deadly than the other.
God created gay people, let him change them as he wishes, let him judge them accordingly. If you say gay people are sinners, you are also a sinner for killing them and you will meet them in hell. We are not barbarians yet we behave like savages.

I pray the killers are found and brought to justice!

Rest in peace Akinnifesi Olumide Olubunmi
