"No fewer than four policemen have been detained in connection with the alleged killing of a 17-year-old boy, Innocent Kokorifa.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Tuesday that Innocent, the first out of five children of Mr. Daniel Kokorifa, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, was shot dead by the Bayelsa State Police Command’s Anti-Vice team on Airforce Road in Yenagoa on August 18, 2016.
The victim was said to be running an errand for his mother, Pere, when he was allegedly killed by the police at about 11am on the day.
The state police command had in a statement last week claimed that the victim died in a gun battle between a three-man armed robbery gang and the police team.
A police source, who did not want his name mentioned because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confided in our correspondent on Tuesday that the policemen were detained at the Bayelsa State Command headquarters.
The source said, “I am not authorised to speak on the matter. But I know those men are in detention and the police authorities are investigating the incident.
“I do not know the exact number of policemen that are detained, but they are between three and four.”
Efforts to get the reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, were futile as his mobile phone did not connect.
Also, calls put to the phone of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, on Tuesday, rang out.
The father of the deceased teenager, Daniel, had demanded justice for his son.
He had claimed that the leader of the team that killed his son was his friend."
